The Highs and Lows of Life
You’re going on a fabulous vacation.
You’re having a party thrown in your name.
All things to get excited about, right? It seems like everyone else thinks so. But is it a good thing to get ‘excited’?
Excitement is defined as, ‘a feeling of great enthusiasm and eagerness’. I’d be an ogre if I deprived each of you of such a positive feeling. Or would I? 🤔
The sun rises, the sun sets. Day becomes night. Sweet and sour. Hero and villain. Life is a series of juxtapositions. Checks and balances. We appreciate the summer that much more after a really crappy winter.
In the end, everything balances.
So, the next time you are tempted with excitement, remember that it will end and you will experience its counterpoint. This I guarantee.
I’m not trying to take the fun out of life. I’m just suggesting that it may serve us to not qualify everything as a high or a low. Excitement or despair.
I strive for peace. ☁️
I see the highs as reminders to be grateful and the lows as lessons. I deeply appreciate the highs and listen very closely for the lessons buried in the lows.
This reframing has granted me more peace.
I’ve traded excitement for gratitude, and despair for growth. It may not be natural at first, but in time it will become automatic and life will just be a wave that you surf. 🌊
A dance instead of a journey.
Time to start dancing. 💃
